Councillors are elected representatives of local government, responsible for making strategic decisions, setting budgets, and representing community interests within their municipality, typically serving four-year terms. They play a vital leadership role in managing public infrastructure and services.

1. They develop council policies, approve budgets, and act as a statutory planning authority. They are not authorized to direct council employees directly.
2. Representation: Councillors work with the community to understand local needs, acting in the best interest of the community.
3. Meetings: They attend council and committee meetings to review, debate, and vote on issues.
4. Remuneration: In Tasmania, councillors receive allowances, which are paid in arrears, along with reimbursement for certain expenses.

Elections: In Tasmania, council elections are held every four years, with the next election scheduled for 2026.
